Practice Area

Ms. Lou-Magnuson’s practice focuses on defending public and private entities from civil and regulatory liability. She has assisted public schools and universities, corporations, as well as financial institutions in disputes ranging from environmental litigation, banking regulation, to general corporate and transactional matters.

Immediately prior to joining Patterson Buchanan, Ms. Lou-Magnuson worked at The Boeing Company, where she reviewed, drafted, negotiated, and enforced multi-million-dollar contracts in the advanced manufacturing, information technology, and tooling commodities. Ms. Lou-Magnuson brings to her litigation practice this corporate experience, which has given her insight into the expectations and needs of large, organizational clients.

Before Boeing, Ms. Lou-Magnuson worked as an associate attorney at the law firm of Carlsmith Ball LLP in Honolulu, Hawaii, where her practice concentrated in environmental litigation and banking regulatory law. Before that, she was a law clerk to The Honorable Katherine G. Leonard of the Intermediate Court of Appeals of the State of Hawaii. Ms. Lou-Magnuson also served as a judicial extern both to The Honorable Richard R. Clifton of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit as well as The Honorable Simeon R. Acoba, Jr. (ret.) of the Hawaii Supreme Court. As an appellate clerk and extern, Ms. Lou-Magnuson honed her legal research and analysis skills by drafting bench memoranda analyzing arguments on appeal and, in some instances, providing draft opinions to the court.

Ms. Lou-Magnuson graduated, cum laude, from the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law, where she was a student in the evening/part-time program. During law school, Ms. Lou-Magnuson served as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Asian-Pacific Law & Policy Journal, a preeminent academic publication in its niche subject matter. She also served as the Captain of the Saul Lefkowitz Intellectual Property Moot Court Team, which took first place in best oral advocacy and best overall team at the 2013 national championship competition in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Lou-Magnuson is also a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese.
