Mr. Kitson represents public entities and private clients, with an emphasis on defending school districts, counties, and cities. Mr. Kitson has extensive litigation experience in employment law, civil rights, personal injury, wrongful death, class actions, and sexual abuse. Mr. Kitson routinely practices in both state and federal courts. In addition, Mr. Kitson provides general counsel school districts and other public entities on subjects ranging from employment law and labor law issues civil rights and general policy issues. He also regularly conducts presentations and trainings regarding a variety of subjects in these areas.

Mr. Kitson initially joined the firm as a summer associate during the first year the firm was founded. During law school Mr. Kitson served as an extern for Washington Supreme Court Justice Debra Stephens.

Mr. Kitson has been selected as a “Rising Star” by Washington Super Lawyers in 2014, 2016, and 2017.

Representative Cases
  • Francis v Clallam County – Won summary judgment on negligence claims in double wrongful death case where teenage drunk driver drove car full of passengers inta river
  • Rucker v. Spokane County – Favorable settlement in class action filed on behalf of thousands of people whalleged the County violated their civil rights by not providing sufficient due process prior timposing jail time for failure tpay legal financial obligations
  • M.P. v. Federal Way School District – Won summary judgment in a case where student and parent alleged school district engaged in race and gender discrimination, free speech violations, and unlawful search and seizure related to assault on school grounds and subsequent discipline
  • Estate of Mendoza v. Marysville School District – Won summary judgment on negligence claims brought by the estate of a teenage decedent and former student alleged the school district was liable for not preventing students from going on a joy ride after school that resulted in a fatal car crash
  • Stengel v. Grays Harbor County – Won summary judgment in a case where a woman slipped and fell inside the County Courthouse
  • Geniuch v. San Juan County – Favorable resolution in a case where employee alleged he was terminated for whistleblower retaliation, and claimed multiple Public Records Act violations
  • C.K. v. Peninsula School District - Favorable settlement in high-profile school bullying case
